Angel

Angel York, aka Sissy, Sis, Missy, and/or Miss, our yellow lab, died on Monday, August 1, 2022 at the age of 13 years.  She was born in Castle Rock, CO on March 15, 2009.  When we picked her up, her human brother, Taylor, was 10 years old.  He held her while we drove back to Pueblo West, CO.  He started crying when he thought how lonely she would be without her parents and siblings.  I told him she would be okay because she was going into a new family.  He named her Angel because she was very light-colored and looked like an angel when she was sleeping on his lap.  She lived her first 8 years in Pueblo West, CO and 1 year in Laurel, NE where her mom learned to be a dog trainer.  She helped her mom by being a great practice dog.  Upon moving to Leavenworth, KS in 2018, she was her mom’s trainer dog, a Human Animal Bond therapy dog, and earned her Canine Good Citizen certificate, all when she was 9 years old and older.  She retired from training in 2020 and from HAB in 2021.  Psalm 36:6 reads, “God cares for humans and animals alike.”  Animals are part of God’s amazing creation and throughout scripture, He promises to take care of them.  When Christ said, “I am making everything new!” in Revelation 21:5, He is making a new and better place for our dogs, too.

buddy

Buddy York, nicknamed Buddy Love (The Nutty Professor), our black lab mix, died on Monday, November 21, 2022 at the age of 16 years.  He was born in Quinter, KS on October 13, 2006.  The Yorks had found out about him while they were visiting family in WaKeeney, KS.  On their way back to Pueblo West, CO, they stopped to meet him.  He got off the couch he was on, stretched, and came over to greet them.  That’s all it took.  Buddy went home with his new family.  His human brother, Taylor, was 7 at the time and enjoyed the Air Bud movies.  He started calling the puppy his buddy, and the name stuck.  He lived his first 11 years in Pueblo West, CO, 1 year in Laurel, NE, and 4 years in Leavenworth, KS.  He was a great dog and playmate.  He enjoyed his walks, but enjoyed eating above all else.  His sister, Angel preceded him in death.  He leaves behind his human family and dog siblings Claire and Blake.  We have our hope and belief that we will see our pets again as God has made a place for them.  The flood story in Genesis tells us that God not only saved some humans but that He saved animals as well.  And after the flood waters receded God made a covenant with all of creation.  Genesis 9:12-13, 16 reads, “And God said, “This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come: I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth.  Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth.”  Buddy has crossed his rainbow bridge.
