Required Disability Documentation

Before obtaining a service dog or training your own dog to be a service dog, you must have documentation of a disability or be in the process of obtaining it. Documentation of a disability can take many forms such as:

• Receiving social security disability benefits.

• Receiving VA disability benefits.

• Receiving a prescription for a service dog from your doctor.

• Receiving a letter from your doctor recommending the use of a service dog or stating that your health problem is disabling.

• Receiving a handicap parking permit.
